About us
For a lot of people the Women's Institute (WI) conjures up jam and Jerusalem! Well how about line dancing, lobbying, bras or brothels, women and walking? Calendars and cakes, as well as friends and fun?
Our WI has been based in Thornborough since 1936. Each member has brought something individual and special to the group. Today we continue to be a thriving bunch of individuals who each have something to offer our community. We have also found camaraderie, of course, as well as friends along the way. The Thornborough & Thornton WI is part of the Buckinghamshire Federation of Women's Institutes (BFWI). We meet with other WI groups locally, regionally and nationally where we have the opportunity to share in social gatherings that include interesting speakers who talk on a variety of subjects. We are part of the National Federation of WIs (NFWI) and mandate collectively on debated as well as elected WI resolutions to influence government policy (See WI Campaigns for more information) Each of our meetings includes an interesting speaker or sometimes we learn a new skill. See our Calendar of events for forthcoming speakers or our Blog to read about previous guest speakers. Naturally every meeting is always followed by the expected cup of tea! We have also supported many different events over the years. See our Gallery for a selection of photos for who, what, where, when... |
Membership for the year is £44.00 or you are welcome on a casual basis (max. 3 times) with no charge.
We meet in Thornborough Village Hall, The Green, MK18 2DF on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.30 pm. We hope you will visit us soon! |
